  • Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies The Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies at the UNC School of Medicine conducts coordinates and promotes basic and clinical research on the causes, prevention and treatment of alcoholism. The Bowles Center is also the home of an NIAAA Comprehensive Alcohol Research Center grant that funds studies of alcohol pathogenesis as well as education about alcoholism research.

  • Center for Translational Neuroscience of Alcoholism (CTNA) - an NIAAA-funded alcohol research center.
  • College on Problems of Drug Dependence The College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD) has been in existence since 1929 and is the longest standing group in the United States addressing problems of drug dependence and abuse. It also functions as a collaborating center of the World Health Organization. Currently, CPDD has over 900 members. Since 1938, a major focus of the CPDD's activities has been its sponsorship of an annual scientific meeting. This conference serves as a forum bringing together basic scientists and clinical investigators from industry, academia, and government. Representatives of regulatory agencies, as well as scientists and professionals in a number of diverse disciplines, participate. Areas of interest include the molecular biology, neurobiology, chemistry, pharmacology, biological disposition, behavior, and abuse potential of drugs of abuse, and the epidemiology, prevention, public health aspects of drug dependence along with safety or clinical usefulness of drugs to manage and treat it.

  • Parents360 Parents360, a free community-based education program developed by The Partnership for a Drug-Free America; works on the local level by complementing, rather than competing with, existing drug prevention programs. "Parents: You Matter" is the key presentation of the Parents360 program. It is designed to help parents and other caring adults understand their role in promoting children???s health and safety. Community partners, including local prevention, treatment, law enforcement, health care, and education professionals, can bring the "Parents: You Matter" presentation to their communities by downloading a free PowerPoint and video package from the website.
  • Project MAINSTREAM Project MAINSTREAM is a program that was created with the intent to educate health professionals about substance abuse. Although aimed at educators, the project also includes health professionals from a diverse group disciplines, geographical areas, and specialties.   • SAMHSA Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Center for Excellence The FASD Center is a federally funded initiative devoted to preventing and addressing FASD.  Our Web site provides resources and information on FASD to expand the knowledge base and promote best practices in prevention and treatment.  We maintain an extensive online database of FASD-related materials such as books, journal articles, and videos.  Additional resources include free downloadable fact sheets and brochures, articles and reports, a community calendar, and an online training and technical assistance request form.

Funding for accommodations (chiefs and mentors) and travel (chiefs only) is also provided. Sponsors: National Institute on Drug Abuse and Boston University Program Directors: Daniel Alford, MD, MPH, Associate Professor of Medicine and Jeffrey Samet, MD, MA, MPH, Professor of Medicine and Public Health This training will equip Chief Residents with essential skills to teach addiction medicine to medical residents and students and will help Faculty Mentors to assist their chiefs with incorporating addiction issues into residency program teaching.   • Society for Prevention Research The SPR 2012 Annual Meeting will take place May 29, 2012 - June 1, 2012 in Washington, DC.
