The mission of the Animal Research and Ethics Committee is to review and discuss topics related to the humane, ethical use of animals in biomedical research and to increase awareness among the RSA membership of the growing number of challenges that are being directed at investigators who use animals to study alcoholism and other addictive disorders. This committee shall also serve as a liaison between RSA and the STAR (supporting truth about animal research) coalition, a large and growing consortium of biomedical research societies that coordinates activities to address important issues involving the use of animals in research, provides support for national and international scientists targeted by groups opposing animal research, and develops resources for public education and outreach.
