FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

PROGRAM PROPOSALS / SYMPOSIA ABSTRACTS:

Q.     Do abstracts need to be submitted if you are a proposed speaker in a Symposium, Workshop or Roundtable?

A.     Yes, speaker abstracts are a required part of the symposia/ workshop proposal - they should be submitted online (be sure to indicate that the abstract is part of a program proposal). If your symposium is not accepted, your individual abstract will be processed as a poster presentation if so indicated on your abstract form. You will be billed the $33 publication/processing fee at that time.

Q.     When are speaker abstracts that are part of a symposia proposal due?

A.     At the same time as the proposal – December 7, 2007.

INDIVIDUAL ABSTRACTS:

Q.     When are individual abstracts for poster presentation due?

A.     January 11, 2008.

Q.     Are individual abstract submissions for Poster or Paper presentation?

A.     Abstract submissions are for Poster presentations - on the abstract form there is a question asking whether or not you want your abstract to be considered for a Paper Session. In addition to the Poster Sessions, a few abstracts will be selected for Paper Sessions - the author will be asked to make a 12-minute oral presentation of their research (plus 2 minutes for Q&A). Slides should be limited to three (3). The intent of the paper sessions is to highlight specific topics and to encourage broader participation of members in the meeting (especially junior investigators, who will be given priority). The content will be driven by multidisciplinary approaches to timely research issues in the alcohol field. THOSE SELECTED WILL BE REQUIRED TO PRESENT THEIR PAPER AND POSTER PRESENTATION THOUGH NOT NECESSARILY ON THE SAME DAY.

Q.     What if my abstract does not fit into any of the listed abstract categories?

A.     Select the category that best fits your abstract - do not leave blank. The current list won’t be changed this year, but please send your suggestions for future consideration.

The primary purpose of the categories is to help us in assigning reviewers and to group posters at the meeting.  It is not meant to be all inclusive of various research sub-categories.

Q.     Can I submit my abstract in more than one format?

A.     No, all abstracts must be submitted online - if not possible contact the RSA Office for specific instructions. Submit your abstract in time for the RSA Office to RECEIVE your abstract by January 11, 2008.

Q.     Can my abstract be longer than the space allotted?

A.     No, this is the space allowed by the journal publisher.

Q.     When will I know if my abstract is accepted?

A.     Abstract acceptance letters will be mailed by the first week of April or sooner. You can assume your abstract is accepted unless you are contacted by March 1, 2008.

Q.     If I wish to revise my abstract or withdraw my abstract - what is the deadline?

A.     The deadline for revising or withdrawing abstracts is March 1, 2008 (again assume your abstract has been accepted). Revisions to or withdrawal of an abstract must be in writing. You will be able to revise your abstract online up until January 18, after that time you will need to contact the RSA office.

REGISTRATION / LODGING:

Q.     When will registration/lodging materials be posted?

A.     Early March, 2008.

Q.     What are the tentative rates for lodging and/or fees for registration?

A.     These rates are listed on the meeting site.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS:

Q.     Will continuing education credits/hours be available?

A.     Yes, CMEs for Physicians, CEUs for Psychologists and CECs for Social Workers will be available. Applying for credits and following the requirements for receiving credits is the sole responsibility of the registrant. Requirements will be posted at the registration desk and in the final program. Due to fees that RSA will be required to pay, there will be a $25 charge for those registrants who apply for CEUs and CECs. For Physician CMEs the fee will be approximately $75 – depends on the administrative fee charged by the accrediting body. Additional information about credits will be posted in early May, 2008.
